Religious communities are planning to attend the Native Nations March on Washington. Here is a schedule of religious solidarity activities:
Thursday, March 9 9:00am-5:00pm Advocacy Meetings on Religious Community Solidarity with Standing Rock (Being arranged through denominations. Here is a suggested advocacy resource, thanks to the United Church of Christ.) 7:00pm-9:00pm Standing As Stone: Indigenous Nations and Allies Gather in the Washington National Cathedral, Located at 3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC. The service will feature clergy and lay leaders from the Episcopal Church and various other faiths, Native American leaders from throughout the country, and residents of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. It will be live streamed. Friday, March 10 Clergy are encouraged to wear red stoles on the day of the march. 8:00-9:45am Informally gather as religious communities before the march at First Trinity Lutheran Church at 309 E Street NW, Washington DC. First Trinity is a .2 mile walk to the march site. The nearest Metro stop is Judiciary Square on the Red Line. There will be continental breakfast available. If you need to store your bag during the march, please contact [email protected] for information about bag storage. 10:00am March commences in front of the Army Corps of Engineers at 443 G Street NW, Washington, DC. 12:00pm March ends and rally begins at Lafayette Park in front of the White House |

Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archembault requested that Fr. John Floberg lead the religious community solidarity activities. Fr. Floberg has served as an Episcopal Priest at Standing Rock for many years and organized the November 2016 Standing Rock clergy action. Fr. Floberg is being supported by the denominational staff of the Episcopal Church, and other denominational leaders are also stepping up in many ways to help. Because Creation Justice Ministries serves a membership that includes the Episcopal Church and many other denominations that are involved, we are offering publicity and coordination.
What faith organizations and denominations are supporting the march?
The Church of the Brethren, Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Creation Justice Ministries, Franciscan Action Network, Mennonite Central Committee, Presbyterian Church (USA), Sisters of Mercy Institute for Justice, the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society as well as United Methodist Women, United Church of Christ are all planning to support. The Episcopal, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Mennonite Central Committee, and United Church of Christ also are planning denomination-specific activities. (This is an incomplete list.
