Energy Transition: Seeking Economic and Ecological Justice Beyond Coal
As people of faith, we offer a counter-narrative to the loud voices that pit economic and ecological well-being against one another. Our faith teaches us that care for God's creation and care for our neighbors are moral responsibilities that go hand-in-hand. We also believe in showing our neighbors kindness and respect, even when we disagree. Creation Justice Ministries has co-sponsored "State of Appalachia" convenings of religious community leaders in the Appalachia region to envision what a "just transition" means for the area, has advocated for accelerated reclamation of coal mines by releasing money from the Abandoned Mine Land Fund, and has mobilized religious community leaders to give input to federal coal valuation decision-making.
