Every Tree is a Testament to God's Creation.

Branches of Faith is a coalition, co-led by Creation Justice Ministries and A Rocha USA bringing together churches and local partners to live out God’s calling to care for creation- bringing shade, beauty, cleaner air, and food to our neighborhoods, as well as habitat for urban wildlife. We are excited to offer these free resources to help your congregation plant trees, restore canopies, and heal communities — rooted in scripture, grounded in equity.¡También disponibles en español!

If your church is interested in joining a local faith-based tree equity hub and is located in any of our project areas (Austin, Nashville, Titusville/Orlando, and Baltimore), check your eligibility here!

Branches of Faith Facilitator Guide

This guide is a compilation of practical resources created in collaboration with partners in the Branches of Faith tree equity project. As a stand-alone resource or as a complement to these documents which explore tree equity ministry in broader detail, this is an integrated guide for Christian partners and facilitators that explores the varied ways trees and tree equity can be a life-giving ministry of the Church as well as a faith-deepening offering for the congregation. We encourage you to use this document like a field guide for exploring how tree equity and creation care ministry can nurture wellness and wholeness in every sense!

Planting Sacred Seeds

This guide invites individuals and communities of all faiths and spiritual understandings to connect with planting and caring for trees as an expression of their deepest values and as practices that reflect compassion, justice, reverence, and interconnection with all life. Consider it a reference guide for how you might engage these faithful actions as intentional spiritual practices that invite deeper encounters with your own tradition, community, and the living world we share.

Canopy of Creation

Trees appear more often in Scripture than any member of creation except humans.  Yet in cities across America, tree canopy follows the same fault lines as historic redlining. Neighborhoods denied investment generations ago often lack trees today, experiencing temperatures up to 13°F hotter and significantly worse air quality than tree-lined neighborhoods nearby. This resource equips congregations to address tree injustice through theological reflection, worship, storytelling, and practical action. Download it to find sermon starters, prayers, original songs, children's activities, advocacy guides, and stories of communities already doing this work.

What if trees could tell the truth about justice in our communities and show us a way forward?

Across the United States, tree canopy maps trace the same fault lines as historic redlining, revealing how access to shade, clean air, and climate resilience has been shaped by systemic injustice. The Canopy of Creation invites the church to look up, tell the truth about tree apartheid, and rediscover trees as gifts, witnesses, and instruments of healing.

Song and Worship Resources

This section was created for use across Christian traditions. We recognize that different traditions mean different things by “worship.” In the spirit of ecumenism, we encourage you to use these resources in a way that befits your community.

In this section, we share traditional and specially commissioned songs for usage in a church service. We also have additional resources liturgical resources for you to have a unique service focused on the canopy of Creation. Click here to access sheet music for Join the Trees in Praise
