SPOTLIGHT: SAVE THE ARCTIC NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE.
Right now, we have an unprecedented opportunity to permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Gwich’in people, the Alaska Native community who have cared for the Refuge since time immemorial, have asked us to stand with them in their struggle to protect their way of life. The Gwich'in depend on porcupine caribou for daily sustenance. Porcupine caribou are so integrated into the life of the Gwich'in people that they have a story about how the Gwich'in and the porcupine caribou each share a piece of the other's heart. Oil exploration and drilling in the coastal plane of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would disrupt the birthing grounds of the porcupine caribou, which the Gwich'in call "the sacred place where life begins." Please sign and share a petition to stand with the Gwich'in and permanently protect the Arctic Refuge. Together with Gwich'in advocates, Creation Justice Ministries will hand deliver your signature to decision-makers in September 2016.
